Dear Sirs,
A resident of Barry, Vale of Glamorgan, and representing other adjacent neighbours as well as myself, I would like to express our desire to KEEP the present co-mingled household waste collection service provided by the Vale of Glamorgan. In our opinion, this is the most efficient, and effective, form of collecting household waste that residents would be willing to co-operate fully with. Once you start separating waste into even more categories, storage problems start to emerge for any household; especially in space / storage limited homes - terraced houses / flats / high density housing, etc., and will, in our opinion, discourage people from fully supporting the recycling of waste material. More would be going into landfill via general, non-recyclable waste, routes.
The following, professionally expressed opinion, extracted from the website of the recycling company - Veolia Environmental Services (UK) Plc, 8th Floor, 210 Pentonville Road, London N1 9JY - puts our position on this subject quite effectively - “We have international experience in this field. We’ve been pioneers in recycling collection for many years, encouraging people to reduce their waste through our contracts with local authorities and businesses. Experience tells us that the most effective way to collect waste that can be recycled, particularly in towns and cities, is via a single container for paper, plastics and metals and a separate glass collection.* The different materials can then be separated in a Materials Recovery Facility (MRF).”
An additional ‘bin’ for glass would be the our limit of our co-operation if the co-mingled waste had to be separated further.
All addresses can be provided if necessary.
Yours faithfully,
